lumie is built by a small team of college students. this page explains what we collect, why, and how to have it removed. it covers two separate things: the lumie app on your phone, and this website's beta signup form.
the app
you do not need an account
a new install asks for no phone number, no email, and no login. your classes, your work and your study sessions are written to your own phone and stay there. if you never make an account, none of it is ever sent to us. making an account is a choice you make later, in settings, and its only purpose is to carry your work to a new phone and to let you add friends.
screen time never leaves your phone
lumie blocks apps during a study session using apple's screen time system. apple designed it so that the apps you pick, and the tokens representing them, are readable only by lumie on your own device. we never see which apps you chose. we never see your usage numbers. apple does not give them to us, and we do not want them. the seven day figure lumie shows you during setup is rendered by apple inside a view we are not allowed to read.
what we store if you make an account
- an apple account identifier, because you sign in with apple. apple gives us that identifier, and on the very first sign in only, your email address and first name. the email may be one of apple's private relay addresses, which forwards to you without telling us your real one. we ask for no password and we never see your apple credentials.
- your phone number, but only if you turn on coach texts. it is asked for beside that switch, never before, and its only purpose is sending you those messages. leave the switch off and we never have it.
- your first name, a handle and a campus, each only if you enter them. the handle and campus are what other students can see.
- your classes, their credits, and the grading categories and weights you copy off your syllabus.
- your coursework: what it is, which class, when it is due, how long it took.
- your study sessions: how long you planned, how long you actually studied, whether the block was on, and what you wrote in the close out.
- your minutes and points, and any minutes sent to or received from a friend.
- anything you post to your campus feed. only what you post.
- your texts with lumie, if you choose to text the coach.
what other students can see
the campus leaderboard shows a rank and a number of minutes. it shows no names, including yours. a friend can see your handle, your first name and your campus, and the minutes you send them. nobody can see your email, your phone number, your classes, your grades or your close out notes.
you can report a post or block a student from inside the feed. a post you report disappears for you straight away, and disappears for everyone once enough people report it. blocking is quiet: the other person is never told, and neither of you sees the other again.
lumie does not text you unless you ask
the coach can text you in the morning, at night and on sunday. that is off unless you turn it on in settings. replying to a text you started is never affected by that switch.
who else touches it
- supabase stores the database and checks the token apple hands us when you sign in. hosted in the united states.
- anthropic runs the model behind the coach. when you text lumie, the message and a summary of your classes and recent sessions are sent so it can answer. your phone number is not sent.
- linq delivers those texts.
- revenuecat handles subscriptions. it sees a purchase, not your schoolwork.
- sentry receives crash reports so we can fix what breaks.
we do not sell anything to anyone. we do not run ads. there is no advertising identifier in lumie and no third party analytics watching what you tap.
how to have it deleted
open settings inside the app and choose delete account. it asks you to confirm and then erases everything, on our server and on your phone, without anyone emailing anyone. you can also text the word DELETE to lumie, or email lumielearn@gmail.com. if you never made an account, deleting the app removes everything, because everything was only ever on your phone.
this website
what the signup form collects
- your email address
- your first name and your school
- your answer to one question about the hardest part of school, if you choose to answer it
- which link brought you here, such as instagram or tiktok
- a referral code, if a classmate sent you here
what it does not collect
no cookies. no analytics trackers. no ads. your browser remembers two small things on your own device: which link brought you here, and your invite code after you join, so you can find your invite link again. neither is sent anywhere except with your signup.
where it lives
everything the form collects goes into a private google sheet only the lumie team can open. email lumielearn@gmail.com and we will delete your row.
students under 18
lumie is built for college students and is not directed at children. we do not knowingly collect anything from anyone under 13. if you believe a child has given us information, email us and we will remove it.
one more thing
lumie is built by college students. it is not a medical product. it does not diagnose or treat anything, and it is not a substitute for care from someone qualified to give it.
changes
if this page changes in a way that matters, we will say so in the app before it takes effect.
