terms

last updated october 3, 2026.

lumie is built by a small team of college students. these are the terms for using the lumie app and this website. they are written to be read, not skimmed past. if anything here is unclear, email lumielearn@gmail.com and a person will answer. how we handle your data lives on its own page: privacy.

who can use lumie

lumie is built for college students. you need to be at least 13 to use it. if you are under 18, make sure a parent or guardian is fine with you using it. by using lumie you agree to these terms.

your account

you do not need an account. everything works on your own phone without one. if you make an account, you sign in with apple, and you are responsible for what happens on your device and under your account. one person, one account. you can delete your account at any time in settings, and that erases everything we hold, on our server and on your phone.

what lumie does, and what it does not promise

lumie picks the one thing to work on next, holds time for it, blocks the rest of your phone while you study, and shows you how you are getting faster. it is a study tool. it does not promise any grade, outcome or result. the decisions it makes are suggestions you can always override, and the estimates it shows are estimates.

lumie is not a medical product. it does not diagnose or treat anything, and it is not a substitute for care from someone qualified to give it. if you are struggling, please talk to someone at your school who can help.

blocking your phone

during a study session, lumie uses apple's screen time system to block apps on your phone until the timer ends. you choose to start every session, and you can always end one early. lumie never blocks emergency calls. do not rely on lumie to keep you from anything you genuinely need to reach during a session.

the coach

lumie's coach is a language model. it can be wrong, and it can misunderstand you. treat what it says as a nudge from a study partner, not as advice from a person who knows your situation. coach texts are off unless you turn them on in settings, and you can turn them off the same way. standard messaging rates from your carrier may apply.

if you text lumie to add work or hold time, it will do what it understood you to mean and tell you what it did. check the result in the app. lumie never deletes anything because of a text.

your campus and your friends

parts of lumie are shared with other students: the campus board, the feed, and minutes you send to friends. what you post there is yours, and by posting it you let lumie show it to the people on your campus. keep it about studying. do not post anything hateful, harassing, explicit, illegal, or that belongs to someone else. you can report a post or block a student from inside the feed, and we can remove posts or suspend accounts that break these rules, with or without warning.

lumie plus

some parts of lumie may be offered as a paid subscription called lumie plus. the price and the length of any free trial are shown in the app before you buy. apple bills you through your apple id, and the subscription renews on its own until you cancel it in your iphone's settings, at least a day before it renews. refunds are handled by apple under apple's rules. if a price changes, apple will tell you before you are charged the new one.

using lumie fairly

do not break into lumie, scrape it, flood it, pretend to be someone else, or use it to harm another student. do not try to read other students' data. if you find a security problem, email us and we will take it seriously.

what we own

the lumie app, its design, its artwork and its name belong to us. your classes, your work, your sessions and your posts belong to you. you give us permission to store and process them so the app can work, which is described on the privacy page.

limits

lumie is provided as it is. we work hard to keep it running and correct, but we cannot promise it will always be available or free of mistakes. to the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for losses that come from using lumie, and our total responsibility to you is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the problem. some places do not allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.

ending things

you can stop using lumie and delete your account whenever you like. we can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. if lumie ever shuts down, we will tell you in the app first and give you time to get your data out.

the law

these terms are governed by the laws of the state of michigan, united states, and any dispute will be handled there, unless the law where you live says otherwise.

changes

if these terms change in a way that matters, we will say so in the app before the change takes effect. using lumie after that means you accept the new terms.
